Cycling Industry News Live 2025

This year Mondo’s decided to visit Cycling Industry News Live hosted at NAEC Stoneleigh and was very impressed with both the show and the industry.

Exhibitors included the likes of Muc Off, Extra, Chickens, and Bob Elliot – all suppliers of new bicycle parts for us. The venue was well suited with an outdoor area for test riding new bicycles coming to market, everything including; mountain, gravel, road, and electric bikes. So what did we learn and see that was so impressive and great to write a blog about?

Mavic Wheelsets

As Chickens are the leading UK supplier of Mavic wheels we got to explore the new range coming to market – and yes this did include new rim brake models!

If you have followed the industry as closely as we have, you would have heard last year that Mavic were going to cut back on their rim brake wheelset models, eventually making it more costly and awkward for cyclists to find new wheelsets. However, as we ventured the new models and spoke with Paul at Chickens, we soon learnt that Mavic has in fact reversed their previous decision and are now releasing a load more new rim brake models, whilst also maintaining a vast range of disc brake models too. These rim sets were both made with quality in mind, but also made to an affordable price point.

That’s right – Mavic are becoming more affordable and accessible!

Models across both rim and disc included typical materials, carbon fibre and aluminium, but with different tiers. The more affordable tier began from £229 for a pair! I know right, a huge bargain for such a brand of wheels. The next tiers then went upward to £500 a set to over £1000 a set, with the most expensive being innovated for lightness, aerodynamics, and of course speed.

One model that caught our eyes were their retro chromed wheels. The KSYRIUM SL HERITAGE are a wheelset designed for that classic Mavic revisit, priced about £650 for either disc or rim sets, finished in classic chrome… The cherry on the top? The Mavic logo on the wheels and hubs are actually the original logo from their early days, truly making these wheels a heritage design.

Whilst Mondo’s aren’t an active shop, if you are seeking to purchase some of these new models, you can reach out to us and we can order you a pair and complete the setup and installation.

Fulcrum Wheels

Staying on the topic of wheels, we were please when visiting the Bob Elliot stand as we learnt that this supplier had just taken on the Fulcrum brand for the UK market. We know many of our customers are running Fulcrum wheelsets, including us ourselves.

bob elliot and fulcrum wheels

Sticking true to their existing models and innovation, Fulcrum had plenty of deep section carbon fibre options including the Wind models. The newest carbon fibre model has been meticulously designed and manufactured to ensure they are their best in weight and aerodynamics. What appealed to us with these was the wavy rim! This wave, not put there to be pretty, is their aerodynamics technology to ensure they cut through the air and remain stable even at higher speeds.

I know what some of you are thinking though… Are they doing anything for gravel or rim brakes?

The answer? Yes to both!

Fulcrum have plenty of gravel wheelsets in their arson and a range of rim brake models too!

Muc-Off

Moving away from wheels, we move to cleaning and tubeless technology! There were three key products we talked to Muc-Off about – Ceramic coating, workshop cleaning/ degreasing baths, and tubeless valves.

Let’s begin in order, starting with ceramic coating.

Firstly, what is ceramic coating? This is a specialised finishing coating which we add to bicycles after being washed to make a top layer on the frame to ensure nothing sticks to it, making it far easier to wash come the next clean. This technology ensures any mud or mucky water falls off the frame almost straight away and even if it appears to stick, cleans right off with a simple hosing.

Back to Muc-Off – We wanted to find out if they had their own ceramic coating, to which we found out that they do! They offer a complete ceramic coating kit which will protect a bicycle frame for a couple of months, compared to others which last until the bike is washed. We have yet to try this kit, but we will let everyone know our thoughts when we do!

Their special sneak peak at the event was their new workshop cleaning / degreasing bath. This is a crucial part to any bicycle repair shop like Mondo’s as this is how we clean up old components which are otherwise covered in dirt, mud, and oil.

On to the final and their biggest item at their stand – tubeless valves. We say their biggest item as they had a giant aluminium working model of their innovative big bore valves!

muc-off big bore

If anyone has been a tubeless user for any amount of time, you would have found out how easily the valves can get blocked with sealant up over time. However, with the addition of the Muc-Off Big Bore valves, this ensures that no sealant can leak out upon inflation! This works with a simple tap system which opens and closes the valve, but is designed to only be opened once the pump is connected and ready to inflate. This design is a huge game changer for the tubeless world and we have a blog on these valves coming next! Ray’s son Anthony has been given the task of testing them in the real world before we offer them to our customers… a sneak peak into this… they are incredible!

Campagnolo Wireless

We again got up close and personal with the new Campag wireless groupsets, exploring the design, innovation, and workings. Being fully wireless makes for a sleeker installation on to a road bike, however, we have yet to attain the wireless software for configuration and setup. Once we have, we will be sure to post about this!

This wireless groupset works seamlessly between shifting and looks absolutely incredible to say the least.

Conclusion

As a round up and conclusion to this blog and the visit, we are excited for the coming months in the cycling industry.

Cycling Industry News Live 2025 proved a great event, day out, and an exciting overview of the industry!

Where we have previously seen a push towards disc brakes and high-end frames and components, options for rim brakes and budget friendly options are certainly making a comeback. As a mobile repair service, we know firsthand that many of us are trying to maintain our current bicycles for two reasons – they are still damn right good, and a new one can be expensive! So to see these options coming to the market is brilliant.
